2030 VISION STATEMENT

In the year 2030, the City's drinking water is clean and plentiful because of widespread water conservation, enhanced reservoir protection and the development of the King William Reservoir.

All development in the City is served by sanitary sewers. Collection lines are monitored, and well managed and operated.  Procedures for sanitary sewer and wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance eliminate the possibility of sewage overflows from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District’s wastewater treatment plants into the area’s waterways.

The storm water system is well designed and free flowing with well maintained and landscaped drainage canals, ditches and retention ponds that serve multiple uses. Flooding of properties is restricted to storm events significantly beyond the City's stormwater design capacity.

The local government communication access channels have improved accessibility and programming. The cost of cable service is competitive, with several basic service options available. The City’s website and radio channel continue to be viable forms of communication with City residents.

Recycling in the home and businesses have become a well ingrained habit. Waste reduction and recycling exceed the standards required by State regulation. Products containing recycled materials are commonplace and widely accepted and used in local business, government and industry.
