The City of Newport News encompasses diverse cultural influences which blend into a harmonious community.  Cultural activities include music, dance, visual and performing arts. The City’s rich cultural heritage is augmented through a coordinated library, museum and parks network.  Libraries, museums and parks serve as community resource centers which are easily accessible to all citizens.  The City celebrates its heritage by preserving its history through a variety of exhibits in cooperation with its museum and library network.  Cultural opportunities in the City are enhanced by educational and cultural programs offered at the City’s Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center and Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center for the Arts.    The City thrives due to its successful partnerships with its Public School System, Christopher Newport University and the faith community.

Newport News citizens are actively involved in every aspect of the community.  The City serves as a model of corporate, institutional and citizen participation and support.  Newport News is considered one of the most desirable places nationwide to visit, live, work, play, and learn.
