Graduation Rates
Graduation rates are calculated using different variables and formulas.
Graduating seniors receive one of the following diplomas:
- Standard Diploma
- Advanced Studies Diploma
- International Baccalaureate Diploma
- Modified Standard Diploma
- Special Diploma
A total of 1,976 students graduated from Newport News Public Schools in June 2007. Fifty-one percent (1,000) earned a Standard Diploma. Forty percent (791) earned an Advanced Studies Diploma. Nine percent (185) earned a Special Diploma, GED Certificate, or Modified Standard Diploma.
Seniors not graduating are categorized with one of the following reasons:
- Lack of a verified credit in English or Writing
- Lack of a verified credit in a subject area other than English or Writing
- Lack of academic credits
