Emergency Managment

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) provides comprehensive, risk-based and coordinated emergency management prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery for major emergencies and disasters affecting the City of Newport News and the Hampton Roads regional area.  The office serves to protect the public peace, health, safety, lives, property and economic well being of the city and the citizens.  The Emergency Management staff prepares contingency plans, conducts practice drills, provides warnings and, after a disaster, coordinates damage assessment and recovery.  The staff manages the Emergency Operation Center.  

The office strives to be the local, State and nationally recognized leader in the emergency management profession.  OEM partners with local, regional State and Federal governments, business and industry, volunteer agencies and individual citizens to accomplish its mission.
