Fire and Emergency Medical Services
The mission of the City of Newport News Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is “to appropriately respond to any situation that may threaten life or property while continually advancing community-wide education, prevention and preparedness.”
The City of Newport News currently has ten fire stations with plans for an eleventh station to be operational in early 2009. In addition to emergency responses, fire station personnel provide many community services on a daily basis, including child safety seat installations, blood pressure checks, free smoke and carbon monoxide detector installations and station tours for citizens and visitors. The Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with Northrop Grumman, Fort Eustis, Yorktown Naval Weapons Station and surrounding jurisdictional Fire Departments. The Department also responds to and supports potential emergencies at the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.
