To fulfill these requirements, the staff of the Training Bureau is dedicated to creating and providing quality-training programs that reflect the needs and changing responsibilities of the Newport News Fire Department. All training is focused on providing and maintaining the highest quality emergency service at fire and medical responses to the citizens of Newport News. Instructional programs target operational efficiency with emphasis on safe operating procedures for our members in all aspects of fire and emergency operations.
The Fire Department Training Bureau opened its new state of the art training center in April 2004 on Warwick Boulevard in the Lee Hall area. The facility consists of classrooms, staff offices, a conference room, breakout rooms, and a computer lab. Classrooms are equipped with modern audio/visual equipment to enhance classroom training. The complex also consists of a regional live fire training structure and a four-story training tower.
