Landscaped Boulevards
The land along most of the thoroughfares in the district is partially developed. There are vacant lots as well as a mix of development that lack either the required parking lot landscaping or the landscape strips along the street frontage. On the undeveloped parcels along Bland Boulevard, Yorktown Road, and Jefferson Avenue the City should require preservation and/or planting of tree buffers along the street frontage and parking lot landscaping.
The road widening projects planned for the district give the City the opportunity to improve the visual look of the road corridors because street trees are planted as part of these projects, sidewalks and bicycle trails are added, and overhead utilities are planted underground.
Atkinson Way Boulevard, which is currently in the City's long range transportaiton plan, will have landscaped tree buffer planted along both sides of the road and a ten (10) foot wide multi-purpose trail. However, Atkinson Way Boulevard is not currently scheduled for construction because the money for the project is not in place.
