Aesthetics

The image of the city is dependant on the how the City looks, i.e., aesthetics.    The key elements of aesthetics include: architecturally sound designs, compatibility with its surroundings, appropriate use and mix of materials, balanced use of colors, proper lighting techniques, and well-designed site elements such as landscaping, pedestrian access, green building techniques, and parking.  An example of good aesthetics in the district is Villages of Stoney Run. The City was able to accomplish the aesthetics of Villages of Stoney Run through the conditional zoning process of the City.

The City created the Lee Hall Overlay district to provide design guidelines for mixed use, commercial, and industrial development along the gateway corridors to historic Endview and Lee Hall Mansion. These corridors are: Yorktown Road, Jefferson Avenue from Fort Eustis Boulevard to the City line, and Crafford Road from Yorktown Road to the City line.  The Lee Hall Overlay District allows review of aesthetics for development in these gateway corridors.
